ABOUT MFARS

Moray Firth Amateur Radio Society is a group of amateur radio enthusiasts with a variety of radio interests.

Our aims are to support and encourage amateur radio in the Moray area, our activities include:

  • Introducing amateur radio to community groups such as scouts

  • Running amateur radio stations at public events

  • Providing training and exam facilities to help newcomers to get licensed and on the air

  • Entering radio events such as contests and special event days on the air

The club holds the call sign GM3TKV.
We have a variety of radio equipment which is available for club members to use for contests and special events.
We are currently in the process of converting a ex-military communications unit into a mobile club unit.
MFARS also owns and operates the GB3SS (Speyside) VHF repeater which serves Moray and parts of the surrounding area.
For those starting out in amateur radio, we run training courses for Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced radio amateur examinations.
The club has a registered examination centre in Fochabers.
